What kind of projects does Climate Neutral Group have?
Climate Neutral Group has projects in the field of sustainable energy, such as wind farms, hydropower plants, solar panels, biogas projects and biocompost projects. We currently also have one forestry project in our portfolio. Read more about our projects.
Can I choose which project I want to offset with?
At present consumers cannot choose a specific project. This is so that we can keep the administration simple and direct the largest possible part of your contribution towards the actual projects. Companies and organisations may choose a project, however, provided that they take up a minimum volume of carbon credits.
When I offsett using the website, in which projects do I invest in?
When you offsett your CO2 emissions through our website, your money will be invested in a mix of projects. This mix consists of all VCS and VER projects that meet the highest international standards.
How do you measure how much CO2 the projects reduce?
This is calculated by independent organisations accredited by the UNFCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). These certified organisations are responsible for:
- checking the quantity of prevented emissions or the quantity of carbon dioxide absorbed or removed;
- monitoring these matters throughout the duration of the project;
- issuing a 'Verification Report' that states the current quantity of emission reductions and thus the volume of generated carbon credits.
Why aren't there any projects in the Netherlands?
The Netherlands has given a commitment under the Kyoto Protocol and is thus obliged to reduce its own CO2 emissions. The climate contribution of sustainable energy projects and forestry projects in the Netherlands counts towards the attainment of the Dutch climate target under the Kyoto Protocol. There would be a double count if the same projects were also used as part of voluntary offsetting for consumers’ and organisations’ emissions. Until a watertight method exists for avoiding double counting, it will only be possible to undertake voluntary carbon reduction projects in countries without a Kyoto target (‘Annex 2 countries’).
Most of the projects are in developing countries. How does this solve the emission problem in my country?
Greenhouse gases cover the Earth like a blanket. As they are gases they spread out over the planet. Emissions here cause more greenhouse gases everywhere on Earth and vice versa. Reducing CO2 emissions or absorbing CO2 in developing countries also helps reduce CO2 in the atmosphere in the Netherlands.
